Harry Potter Party Props
We are HUGE Harry Potter fans! Our friends and family ... not a single Muggle among us! So we throw many Harry Potter parties ... and that requires making tons of prop replicas!
I wasn't kidding about the no Muggles in this crowd. And this is just a portion of the partygoers!
Sirius, Hagrid and Harry Potter ...
The Monster Book of Monsters was made from an old advertising directory. I made the eyes, mouth and tentacles from paper clay. The tongue is a portion cut from the belt wrapped around the book ... just with a little paint added to it. And the pages of the directory were bright pink and blue, so I had to distress and paint the pages.
I found an old vacuum cleaner case at my favorite antique shop. It's a solid wood case for an old Electrolux from England ... and with a little paint and modification, it became our Quidditch chest.
We purchased the Quaffle and Bludgers during a trip to the Wizarding World in Orlando. I added real chains to hold the Bludgers in place, obviously.
We purchased 100 long business card boxes ... and painted each and every single one! This took a long time. Like a really long time. And then they needed the proper labels to make the Ollivander's wand boxes complete.
Each guest received a custom-made wand. No two were alike. Sadly, we failed to photograph all 50+ of them!
For a party scheduled with the movie release of Death Hallows 2, invitations included a letter from Professor McGonagall, a save the date magnet, and a custom Daily Prophet, with a news story on "Muggles Targeted in Attacks" featuring pictures of the invited guests. Other stories included photos from past Potter parties and personal visits to the Wizarding World and more.
